What the game sends, and what it doesn't
Short version: the game can send crash reports so we can fix bugs. They have no names and no save files, and you can switch them off. This website uses no cookies and no analytics.

Who we are
Mithril & Mud is made by CampbellSoft Studios, a small studio. Questions about this page, or a request to delete crash reports from your computer: dev@mithrilandmud.com.
Crash reports
To find and fix bugs, the game sends a report to our error-tracking service, Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA), when it crashes or hits an error. This is on by default.
A report contains:
- the error and where in the game's code it happened;
- the game version;
- technical details about your computer: operating system, processor, graphics card and driver, memory, free disk space, screen, system language and time zone;
- a random installation ID that the crash reporter creates on your computer. It is not linked to your name, your Steam account or anything else;
- the game's language, a rough depth range (for example "20-29"), the save format version and whether Steam is running;
- the game's last log lines, with your Windows user name and computer name taken out;
- for a hard crash, a snapshot of the game's memory at that moment. It holds the game's own data, not other programs on your computer.
A report never contains your name, your Steam name or Steam ID, your save files or screenshots.
When a report is sent, Sentry's servers see your IP address, like any website you visit. We have set Sentry not to store it. Sentry does use it to work out an approximate location (city and country), which is kept with the report.
The game sends at most 10 error reports per session, and each different error only once. Crashes are always sent.
We use reports only to find and fix problems in the game. Sentry keeps them for up to 90 days, then deletes them.
Switching it off
Open Settings > Gameplay/Stats and turn off Send crash reports. It takes effect right away, with no restart, and stays off. The game also shows a one-time note about crash reports after the tutorial, with a button to that setting.
The "Report a bug" button
The button on the title screen and in Settings copies a text report to your clipboard and offers to open our Discord. The game does not send it anywhere: nothing leaves your computer unless you paste it somewhere yourself.
The report lists the game version, your system (operating system, processor, graphics card, screen), your game settings, a summary of your save (depth, New Digs, Ascensions, play time) and recent log lines, with your Windows user name and computer name taken out. Read it before you paste it if you like: it is plain text.
Steam
The game runs on Steam. Achievements, Steam Cloud saves and the status your friends see ("rich presence") go through Valve under Steam's privacy policy. We see the same anonymous sales and achievement statistics Steam gives every developer.
This website
mithrilandmud.com uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts. It is hosted by Netlify, whose servers keep standard access logs (such as IP addresses and pages requested) to run and protect the site.
Links to Steam, Discord and X take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies.
Asking us to delete reports
Crash reports are not tied to a name, so to find yours we need some help. Email dev@mithrilandmud.com with the game version and roughly when the crash happened (date, time and time zone), and we will delete matching reports. Reports are deleted automatically after 90 days anyway.
Children
The game and this website are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If what the game sends changes, we will update this page and say so in the patch notes. The date at the top shows the last change.
