FAQ
Questions from the hold
The things players ask most. Something missing? Ask on Discord or email dev@mithrilandmud.com.
The game
What kind of game is Mithril & Mud?
A cozy incremental mining game. You start with one ore vein and a pickaxe, hire Dwarf Miners, build rooms around the cave and dig deeper. Helpers you earn along the way take over the chores, so the hold can run itself while you plan the next descent.
Is it an idle game or an active one?
Both. You can click the vein and run every room by hand, or switch on your helpers (the Foreman, the Overseer, the Quartermaster, the Smeltmaster and more) and let the hold get on with it. Each helper can be switched on or off, saved in profiles, or paused all at once.
Does the game have an ending?
Act one ends at depth 20 with a crown to forge, and the story reaches its ending at depth 40. After that the tunnels keep going: the Emberdeep, the Drowned Halls, the Crystal Choir and the Hollow Dark, each with its own rule twist and its own Warden. The biomes cycle deeper and deeper, so there is always another depth.
Is it single-player?
Yes. Mithril & Mud is a single-player game.
Platforms and languages
Where can I play it?
On Windows, through Steam.
Which languages does it support?
15 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Turkish and Ukrainian. The interface and subtitles are translated; there is no voice-over.
What comfort and accessibility settings are there?
A colorblind mode, a reduce motion option, rebindable keys, UI scaling and scientific notation for big numbers. There is also an in-game music player.
Progress and saves
Does the hold keep working while I am away?
Yes. Offline progress runs at a reduced rate (15% of normal) for up to 12 hours, and some heroes, relics and omens make that window longer. When you come back, a Welcome Back report shows what your dwarves did.
How are my saves stored?
Saves sync with Steam Cloud, so you can pick up on another Windows PC. There are 3 save slots, and you can export a save to a file and import it again.
Are there achievements?
Yes, 71 Steam achievements, and 4 of them are hidden.
Early Access and updates
Is the game finished?
Mithril & Mud has been in Early Access on Steam since March 11, 2026. You can buy and play it now. Version 1.0 is coming soon; wishlist the game and Steam will tell you when it lands.
How do updates arrive?
Through Steam, like any other game: Steam downloads the update for you. Every update comes with patch notes on the devlog here and on the Steam page.
Help and feedback
I found a bug. How do I report it?
The quickest way is our Discord. You can also email dev@mithrilandmud.com. Tell us what happened, what you were doing just before, and which version you are on (it is shown on the title screen).
Does the game send any data?
Only crash reports, to help us fix bugs. They have the game version, your system and where the game crashed, and no names or save files. They are on by default, and you can turn them off in Settings > Gameplay/Stats under "Send crash reports". The "Report a bug" button only copies a report for you to paste yourself.
I have an idea for the game. Where do I send it?
Post it on Discord. Many of the features in the game started as a player suggestion.
I am writing about the game or making a video. Where are the assets?
The press kit has the fact sheet, screenshots in 1080p and 4K, logos and key art. For anything else, email dev@mithrilandmud.com.
